剧情梗概：
一桩神秘的凶杀案，身为律师的贝克要如何抽丝剥茧，找出真正的凶手呢？律师贝克正在追查一桩凶杀案，当事人梅森中尉和他那自称被死者强暴的太太对真相有所隐瞒，死者邦尼和他们夫妻俩到底有何秘密？贝克能查到线索，找出事实的真相吗？电影评价：在本片中，拜格勒显然是非常了解引导证词的限制，而大部分旁观者也都认为他恪守了职业操守的底线。一上来，他没有问曼尼奥到底发生了什么，而是告诉对方关于辩护和脱罪的类别并排除每种可能性。例如，虽然正当防卫下杀人可能会免受制裁，但它完全不适用于疑似强奸案发生一小时之后。另外，拜格勒也拒绝引用一旦发现与自己的配偶偷情便可杀死对方的不成文法规。不幸的是，它在密西根洲还不能被广泛接受。本片则是对这三点的完美诠释。第一，电影本身并没有还原现场的案情，而是通过角色的叙述，这样观众只能凭借自己的想象来描绘案发时的场景。这样就使得一些具体的细节因为角色的忽略而变得模糊，使案情扑朔迷离。第二，随着故事的进行，了解到犯人的老婆是一个招蜂引蝶的女人，并不是一个传统的良家妇女，观众们就会开始怀疑她的说辞，她真的是被强奸吗？此外，还了解到死掉的男人还有一个女儿，而这个女儿是否涉及到父亲的强奸行为，同样的让人难以捉摸。第三，法庭上律师与地方检察官的辩论极其精彩，尤其是辩护律师所释放的烟雾弹以及针对精神失常理由的辩论，都非常有看点，充满着智慧。虽然这部电影时长达到160分钟，但是影片情节清晰完整，结构松弛有度，整个故事一气呵成，看起来非常过瘾，丝毫也不感觉沉闷。好久没有看到这样的好电影了。另一个小羔羊就是酒吧老板的女儿。一直在酒吧老板和他小跟班的手下的保护下，一直没看出他们的人品，在最后突然发现女人的内裤就开始极度怀疑自己的朋友和父亲，被Jimmy大大给牵着鼻子走了，还被说服请他当了律师。酒吧老板一直只在照片中出现所以没法分析，但从他小跟班的举止能看出，他对待中尉妻子的时候是轻浮的，在庭审上就是不屑的态度用词也较粗俗，而在老板女儿面前用词比较正式和正派，想必平时老板对他女儿也是一样，从他女儿的打扮来看，就像是个高雅的淑女，完全符合当时社会观念对淑女的要求，坐得身板也直，头发盘的一丝不苟。不够在这种温室的环境下成长，突然发现自己的父亲不是所想的那样，不是他在她面前扮演的样子，可能很容易世界观就崩塌了，就被Jimmy牵着鼻子走了，也有可能她本来就感觉父亲不是那么的高尚，只是一直不敢相信事实，这点也正印证了影评里说的，人不是只有好和坏，人还有很多面。
