剧情梗概：
在十九世纪的美国西部草原，白人和印第安人始终以水和火的姿态对立着，白人喜欢痛斥印第安人，印第安人则咒骂白人。在某天的草原上，印第安的勇士又遇见了一车队的白人。在一番激战之后，印第安人成功消灭了毫无作战能力的白人车队，当他们企图杀死最后的两名妇女时，勇士领袖米托万因为看见其中一位姑娘安娜手拥《圣经》而放弃了原来的打算。安娜和同行孕妇逃回白人小镇，安娜因为她的勇敢而受到了大家的尊敬，也得到了丹尼尔--一个老实淳朴的小镇农民的垂青。虽然没有浓烈的感情，但安娜还是欣然接受了哥哥为她安排的这场婚姻。不管和丹尼尔结婚是因为丹尼尔老实可靠，还只是因为他有一双蓝色的眼睛，总之安娜已经下决心和这个深爱她的男人过完平淡的一生，并且努力扮演好妻子的角色。但是上帝似乎并不满足安娜这样的选择。新婚不久的一个早晨，当安娜和小镇上的女孩莎拉同在厨房讨论着生活的乏味和梦想的时候，米托万带着他的族人闯进了她和丹尼尔的小屋，并在丹尼尔不在时轻易虏走了安娜以及莎拉……
