"Descendant" takes viewers closer to Africatown, Alabama's small community, as members share personal and group stories about her/their ancestors who were taken aboard history's last slave ship, the Critidas No. 1”, being illegally transported from Africa to the United States like a cargo. The existence of the Critidas has been an open secret for centuries, and now it has been confirmed by a group of marine archaeologists. The film explores the implications of this discovery for this descendant, who will try to untangle the past while becoming the masters of their own destiny.
